SORE

Translation of six Hebrew words and a Greek word in RSV and of at least ten Hebrew and ten Greek words in KJV. 1. An adverb meaning, “very, extremely” as in “sore afraid” (Genesis 20:8). 2. An adverb meaning, “severely, insistently, with urgent pressure” as in “they pressed sore” (Genesis 19:9). 3. To experience pain (Genesis 34:25). 4. “Strong, severe” as in “the famine was sore” (Genesis 43:1). 5. A wounded or diseased spot or a plague (Leviticus 13:42). 6. Something evil or bad (Deuteronomy 6:22; Deuteronomy 28:35). 7. A great amount as in “wept sore” (Judges 21:2). 8. With vexation or anger (1 Samuel 1:6). 9. Cruel, tough, obstinate (1 Samuel 5:7). 10. Fully, greatly (Nehemiah 2:2). 11. Hand (Psalms 77:2). 12. Weakness or sickness (Ecclesiastes 5:13). 13. Horrible, terrible (Ezekiel 27:35). 14. Large, exceeding (Daniel 6:14). 15. Pressing, irritating (Micah 2:10). 16. An ulcer (Revelation 16:2). 17. Blisters or boils (Exodus 9:9). See Boils. 18. An inflamed spot sometimes interpreted as smallpox or a skin disease akin to leprosy (Exodus 9:9-11; Leviticus 13:18-20; 2 Kings 20:7; Isaiah 38:21). 19. A wound (Genesis 4:23; Isaiah 53:5).
