Aramaic translation of the Hebrew word, “ben.” Both words mean “son of.” Bar is often used in the New Testament as a prefix for names of men telling whose son they were: Barabbas (Matthew 27:16-26), Bar-Jesus (Acts 13:6), Bar-Jona (Matthew 16:17), Barnabas (Acts 4:36;
Acts 9:27; etc.), Barsabas (Acts 1:23;
Acts 15:22), Bartholomew (Matthew 10:3;
Acts 1:13), and Bartimaeus (Mark 10:46). See Ben.
