SpeedSearch

At StudyLight we are always looking for ways to make your study experience easier and more enjoyable. Using the javascript technology built into the more recent browsers, users can now simply hold down their ALT key and double-click to search on any word on the page. (Mac Users: Highlight the text, hold down the ALT key and click the selected text for the same results)

How it works!

"But now for a brief moment grace has been {shown} from the LORD our God, to leave us an escaped remnant and to give us a peg in His holy place, that our God may enlighten our eyes and grant us a little reviving in our bondage. Ezra 9:8 (NAS)
In the above text from Ezra 9:8 you will find the word "bondage". Hold down your ALT key and double click on the word with your mouse pointer. (Mac Users: Select the word "bondage", hold down your ALT key and click the word with your mouse pointer)

Next you will see is a pop-up window similar to the image on the right. This will be your Search Results window displaying information about the selected word. If you Alt-double click another word this window will be updated with the new information. You can try this by holding down the ALT key and double clicking on the word "grace" in the above verse. (Mac Users: Select the word "grace", hold down your ALT key and click the word with your mouse pointer)

The "Search Results" window is separated into several different sections: Verse Search, Concordances, Dictionaries, Encyclopedias and Lexicons. A section will only display of one or more entries were found in that section's resources.

Verse Search Section: The search for this section is done using either the default Bible translation or the one chosen when setting preferences in "Set MyResources". The total number of verses found, along with the full name of the translation used and a link the first set of verses, will be displayed. However, if the word searched for is not found within that translation of the Bible then this section will not display.

Concordances Section: This resource section contains over 6,600 entries on subjects ranging from Aaron (the brother of Moses) to the Tribe of Zebulun. Choosing an entry from this section will update the main window with information on that subject.

Dictionaries: This resource section contains over 12,000 entries on subjects ranging from Aenon (a spring near Salim where John baptized) to Zur (Father of Cozbi). Choosing an entry from this section will update the main window with information on that subject.

Encyclopedias: This resource section is the second largest of the group. Currently there are nearly 10,000 entries from the two encyclopedias. However, choosing an entry from this section will update the main window with the information on that subject.

Lexicons: This resource section is the largest with over 14,000 entries. This covers both the Old/New Testament Greek and Old Testament Hebrew. Each entry will display the original word using the free SLFonts followed by entries matching the original search word. This section can be quite long if the search word is too general.

That's it?
Yes, it is that simple and it works on any word on the page. However, you should remember one important thing. Even though the word is on the page, there might not be a corresponding entry in any of our resources.
