Peter Reports at Jerusalem

1 Now the apostles and the R603 brethren who were throughout Judea heard that the Gentiles also had received the word of God. 2 And when Peter came up to Jerusalem, those R604 F257 who were circumcised took issue with him, 3 saying, "You R605 went F258 to uncircumcised men and ate with them." 4 But Peter began speaking and F259 proceeded to explain to them in R606 orderly sequence, saying, 5 "I R607 was in the city of Joppa praying; and in a trance I saw a R608 vision, an object F260 coming down like a great sheet lowered by four corners from the F261 sky; and it came right down to me, 6 and when I had fixed my gaze on it and was observing it I F262 saw the four-footed animals of the earth and the wild beasts and the crawling F263 creatures and the birds of the air. F264 7 "I also heard a voice saying to me, `Get up, Peter; kill F265 and eat.' 8 "But I said, `By no means, Lord, for nothing unholy F266 or unclean has ever entered my mouth.' 9 "But a voice from heaven answered a second time, `What R609 God has cleansed, no longer consider F267 unholy.' 10 "This happened three times, and everything was drawn back up into the F268 sky. 11 "And behold, at that moment three men appeared at the house in which we were staying, having been sent to me from Caesarea. R610 12 "The R611 Spirit told me to go with them without R612 F269 misgivings. These R613 six brethren also went with me and we entered the man's house. 13 "And he reported to us how he had seen the angel standing F270 in his house, and saying, `Send to Joppa and have Simon, who is also called Peter, brought here; 14 and he will speak words R614 to you by which you will be saved, you and all R615 your household.' 15 "And as I began to speak, the R616 Holy Spirit fell upon them just as R617 He did upon us at the beginning. 16 "And I remembered the word of the Lord, how He used to say, `John R618 baptized with water, but you will be baptized with F271 the Holy Spirit.' 17 "Therefore if God R619 gave to them the same gift as He gave to us also after believing in the Lord Jesus Christ, who R620 was I that I could stand F272 in God's way?" 18 When they heard this, they quieted F273 down and glorified R621 God, saying, "Well then, God has granted to the Gentiles also the repentance R622 that leads to life."

The Church at Antioch

19 So R623 then those who were scattered because of the persecution F274 that occurred in connection with Stephen made their way to F275 Phoenicia R624 and Cyprus R625 and Antioch, R626 speaking the word to no one except to Jews alone. 20 But there were some of them, men of Cyprus R627 and Cyrene, R628 who came to Antioch R629 and began speaking to the Greeks R630 F276 also, preaching R631 F277 the Lord Jesus. 21 And the R632 hand of the Lord was with them, and a R633 large number who believed turned to the Lord. 22 The news F278 about them reached F279 the ears of the church at Jerusalem, and they sent Barnabas R634 off to F280 Antioch. R635 23 Then when he arrived and witnessed F281 the R636 grace of God, he rejoiced and began to encourage them all with resolute F282 heart to remain true to the Lord; 24 for he was a good man, and full R637 of the Holy Spirit and of faith. And considerable R638 numbers F283 were brought F284 to the Lord. 25 And he left for Tarsus R639 to look for Saul; 26 and when he had found him, he brought him to Antioch. R640 And for an entire year they met F285 with the church and taught considerable numbers; F286 and the R641 disciples were first called Christians R642 in Antioch. R640

27 Now at F287 this time some R643 prophets came down from Jerusalem to Antioch. R644 28 One of them named Agabus R645 stood up and began to indicate by F288 the Spirit that there would certainly be a great famine all R646 over the world. F289 And F290 this took place in the reign of Claudius. R647 29 And in the proportion that any of the R648 disciples had means, each of them determined to send a contribution for the relief F291 of the R649 brethren living in Judea. 30 And R650 this they did, sending it in F292 charge of Barnabas R651 and Saul to the elders.
