Paul at Corinth

1 After these things he left Athens R1077 and went to Corinth. R1078 2 And he found a Jew named Aquila, R1079 a native of Pontus, R1080 having recently come from Italy R1081 with his wife Priscilla, R1079 because Claudius R1082 had commanded all the Jews to leave Rome. He came to them, 3 and because he was of the same trade, he stayed with them and they R1083 were working, for by trade they were tent-makers. 4 And he was reasoning in R1084 the synagogue every Sabbath R1085 and trying to persuade Jews R1086 and Greeks.

5 But when Silas R1087 and Timothy came R1088 down from Macedonia, R1089 Paul began devoting himself completely to the word, solemnly testifying R1090 to the Jews that Jesus R1091 was the Christ. F414 6 But when they resisted and blasphemed, he shook R1092 out his garments and said to them, "Your blood R1093 be on your own heads! I am clean. From now on I will go to R1094 the Gentiles." 7 Then he left there and went to the house of a man named Titius F415 Justus, a R1095 worshiper of God, whose house was next to the synagogue. 8 Crispus, R1096 the R1097 leader of the synagogue, believed in the Lord with R1098 all his household, and many of the Corinthians R1099 when they heard were believing and being baptized. 9 And the Lord said to Paul in the night by a R1100 vision, "Do not be afraid any longer, but go on speaking and do not be silent; 10 for I am with you, and no man will attack you in order to harm you, for I have many people in this city." 11 And he settled there a year and six months, teaching the word of God among them.

12 But while Gallio was proconsul R1101 of Achaia, R1102 the R1103 Jews with one accord rose up against Paul and brought him before the R1104 judgment seat, 13 saying, "This man persuades men to worship God contrary to the R1105 law." 14 But when Paul was about to open R1106 his mouth, Gallio said to the Jews, "If it were a matter of wrong or of vicious crime, O Jews, it would be reasonable for me to put up with you; 15 but if there are questions R1107 about words and names and your own law, look after it yourselves; I am unwilling to be a judge of these matters." 16 And he drove them away from the R1108 judgment seat. 17 And they all took hold of Sosthenes, R1109 the R1110 leader of the synagogue, and began beating him in front of the R1111 judgment seat. But Gallio was not concerned about any of these things.

18 Paul, having remained many days longer, took R1112 leave of the R1113 brethren and put out to sea for Syria, R1114 and with him were Priscilla R1115 and Aquila. R1115 In Cenchrea R1116 he F416 had R1117 his hair cut, for he was keeping a vow. 19 They came to Ephesus, R1118 and he left them there. Now he himself entered the R1119 synagogue and reasoned with the Jews. 20 When they asked him to stay for a longer time, he did not consent, 21 but taking R1120 leave of them and saying, "I will return to you again if R1121 God wills," he set sail from Ephesus. R1122

22 When he had landed at Caesarea, R1123 he went up and greeted the church, and went down to Antioch. R1124

Third Missionary Journey

23 And having spent some time there, he left and passed successively through the Galatian R1125 region and Phrygia, strengthening all the disciples.

24 Now a Jew named Apollos, R1126 an Alexandrian R1127 by birth, an F417 eloquent man, came to Ephesus; R1128 and he was mighty in the Scriptures. 25 This man had been instructed in the R1129 way of the Lord; and being fervent in spirit, he was speaking and teaching accurately the things concerning Jesus, being acquainted only with the R1130 baptism of John; 26 and he F418 began to speak out boldly in the synagogue. But when Priscilla R1131 and Aquila heard him, they took him aside and explained to him the R1132 way of God more accurately. 27 And when he wanted to go across to Achaia, R1133 the R1134 brethren encouraged him and wrote to the R1135 disciples to welcome him; and when he had arrived, he greatly helped F419 those who had believed through grace, 28 for he powerfully refuted the Jews in public, demonstrating by R1136 the Scriptures that Jesus R1137 was the Christ.
