You Are Built Up in Christ

1 For I want you to know how great a struggle R80 I have on your behalf and for those who are at Laodicea, R81 and for all those who have not personally F42 seen my face, 2 that their hearts R82 may be encouraged, having been knit R83 together in love, and attaining to all the R84 wealth that F43 comes from the full assurance of understanding, resulting in a true R85 knowledge of God's R86 mystery, that is, Christ Himself, 3 in whom are hidden all the R87 treasures of wisdom and knowledge. 4 I R88 say this so that no one will delude you with persuasive R89 argument. 5 For even though I am absent R90 in body, nevertheless I am with you in spirit, rejoicing to F44 see your F45 good R91 discipline and the stability R92 of your faith in Christ.

6 Therefore as you have received Christ R93 Jesus the Lord, so walk R94 F46 in Him, 7 having been firmly rooted R95 and now being built R96 up in Him and established R97 in F47 your faith, just as you were R98 instructed, and overflowing with F48 gratitude.

8 See R99 to it that no one takes you captive through philosophy R100 and empty deception, according to the tradition of men, according to the elementary R101 principles of the world, rather F49 than according to Christ. 9 For in Him all the fullness R102 of Deity dwells in bodily form, 10 and in Him you have been made R103 complete, F50 and He R104 is the head over F51 all rule R105 and authority; 11 and in Him you R106 were also circumcised with a circumcision made without hands, in the removal of the R107 body of the flesh by the circumcision of Christ; 12 having been buried R108 with Him in baptism, in which you were also raised R109 up with Him through faith in the working of God, who raised R110 Him from the dead. 13 When you were dead R111 in F52 your transgressions and the uncircumcision of your flesh, He made R112 you alive together with Him, having forgiven us all our transgressions, 14 having canceled out the R113 certificate of debt consisting of decrees against us, which was hostile to us; and He R114 has taken it out of the way, having nailed it to the cross. 15 When He had disarmed R115 F53 the rulers R116 and authorities, He made R115 a public display of them, having triumphed R117 over them through Him. F54

16 Therefore no one is to act R118 F55 as your judge in regard to food R119 or drink R119 or in respect to a festival R120 or a new R121 moon or a Sabbath R122 day-- F56 17 things which are a R123 mere shadow of what is to come; but the substance F57 belongs F58 to Christ. 18 Let no one keep defrauding R124 F59 you of your prize by delighting R125 in self-abasement F60 and the worship of the angels, taking F61 his stand on visions he has seen, inflated R126 F62 without cause by his fleshly R127 mind, 19 and not holding fast to the R128 head, from whom the R129 entire body, being supplied and held together by the joints and ligaments, F63 grows with a growth which F64 is from God.

20 If R130 you have died with Christ to F65 the elementary R131 principles of the world, why, R132 as if you were living in the world, do you submit yourself to decrees, R133 such as, 21 "Do not handle, do not taste, do not touch!" 22 (which all refer to R134 things destined to perish with F66 use)--in accordance with the commandments R135 and teachings of men? 23 These are matters which have, to be sure, the appearance F67 of wisdom in self-made R136 F68 religion and self-abasement and severe R137 treatment of the body, but are of no value against fleshly R138 indulgence.
