The Song of Moses and Israel

1 Then R471 Moses and the sons of Israel sang this song to the LORD, and F304 said, "I R472 F305 will sing to the LORD, for He is F306 highly exalted; The R473 horse and its rider He has hurled into the sea.

2 "The R474 F307 LORD is my strength and song,

And He has become my salvation;

This R475 is my God, and I will praise Him;

My R476 father's God, and I will extol R477 Him.

3 "The R478 LORD is a warrior;

The R479 F308 LORD is His name.

4 "Pharaoh's R480 chariots and his army He has cast into the sea;

And the choicest of his officers are drowned F309 in the Red F310 Sea.

5 "The deeps cover them;

They R481 went down into the depths like a stone.

6 "Your R482 right hand, O LORD, is majestic in power,

Your R483 right hand, O LORD, shatters the enemy.

7 "And in the greatness of Your excellence F311 You overthrow R484 those who rise up against You;

You R485 send forth Your burning anger, and it consumes R486 them as chaff.

8 "At R487 the blast of Your nostrils the waters were piled up,

The R488 flowing waters stood up like a heap;

The deeps were congealed in the heart of the sea.

9 "The R489 enemy said, `I will pursue, I will overtake, I will divide R490 the spoil;

My desire F312 shall be gratified F313 against them;

I will draw out my sword, my hand will destroy F314 them.'

10 "You R491 blew with Your wind, the sea covered them;

They R492 sank like lead in the mighty F315 waters.

11 "Who R493 is like You among the gods, O LORD?

Who is like You, majestic R494 in holiness,

Awesome R495 in praises, working R496 wonders?

12 "You R497 stretched out Your right hand,

The earth swallowed them.

13 "In Your lovingkindness You have led R498 the people whom You have redeemed; R499

In Your strength You have guided them to R500 Your holy habitation.

14 "The R501 peoples have heard, they tremble;

Anguish has gripped the inhabitants of Philistia.

15 "Then the chiefs R502 of Edom were dismayed;

The R503 leaders of Moab, trembling grips them;

All R504 the inhabitants of Canaan have melted away.

16 "Terror R505 and dread fall upon them;

By R506 the greatness of Your arm they are motionless as stone;

Until Your people pass over, O LORD,

Until the people pass over whom You have R507 purchased.

17 "You R508 will bring them and plant R509 them in the R510 mountain of Your inheritance,

The R511 place, O LORD, which You have made for Your dwelling,

The R512 sanctuary, O Lord, which Your hands have established.

18 "The R513 LORD shall reign forever and ever."

19 For R514 the horses of Pharaoh with his chariots and his horsemen went into the sea, and the LORD brought back the waters of the sea on them, but the sons of Israel walked on dry R515 land through the midst of the sea.

20 Miriam R516 the prophetess, Aaron's sister, took the timbrel R517 in her hand, and all the women went out after her with timbrels and with dancing. R518 F316 21 Miriam answered them, "Sing R519 to the LORD, for He is F317 highly exalted; The horse and his rider He has hurled into the sea."

The LORD Provides Water

22 Then R520 Moses led F318 Israel from the Red F319 Sea, and they went out into the R521 wilderness of Shur; R522 and they went three days in the wilderness and found no water. 23 When they came to Marah, R523 they could not drink the waters of F320 Marah, for they were bitter; F321 therefore it was named Marah. F322 24 So the people grumbled R524 at Moses, saying, "What shall we drink?" 25 Then he cried R525 out to the LORD, and the LORD showed him a R526 tree; and he threw it into the waters, and the waters became sweet.

There He made R527 for them a statute and regulation, and there He tested R528 them. 26 And He said, "If R529 you will give earnest heed to the voice of the LORD your God, and do what is right in His sight, and give ear to R530 His commandments, and keep all His statutes, I R531 will put none of the diseases on you which I have put on the Egyptians; for I, the R532 LORD, am your healer."

27 Then they came to Elim R533 where there were twelve springs of water and seventy date palms, and they camped there beside the waters.
