Faith Brings Righteousness

1 You F33 foolish Galatians, R104 who has bewitched you, before whose eyes Jesus Christ was R105 publicly portrayed as crucified? 2 This is the only thing I want to find out from you: did you receive the Spirit by the works of the F34 Law, or by hearing R106 F35 with faith? 3 Are you so foolish? Having begun by F36 the Spirit, are you now being F37 perfected by the flesh? 4 Did you suffer F38 so many things in vain--if R107 indeed it was in vain? 5 So then, does He who provides R108 you with the Spirit and works R109 miracles F39 among you, do it by the works of the F40 Law, or by hearing R110 F41 with faith?

6 Even F42 so Abraham R111 BELIEVED R112 GOD, AND IT WAS RECKONED TO HIM AS RIGHTEOUSNESS. 7 Therefore, be F43 sure that it R113 is those who are of faith who are sons R114 of Abraham. 8 The Scripture, foreseeing that God would F44 justify the Gentiles F45 by faith, preached the gospel beforehand to Abraham, saying, "ALL R115 THE NATIONS WILL BE BLESSED IN YOU." 9 So then those R116 who are of faith are blessed with Abraham, F46 the believer.

10 For as many as are of the works of the F47 Law are under a curse; for it is written, "CURSED R117 IS EVERYONE WHO DOES NOT ABIDE BY ALL THINGS WRITTEN IN THE BOOK OF THE LAW, TO PERFORM THEM." 11 Now that no R118 one is justified by F48 the F49 Law before God is evident; for, "THE R119 F50 RIGHTEOUS MAN SHALL LIVE BY FAITH." 12 However, F51 the Law is not of F52 faith; on the contrary, "HE R120 WHO PRACTICES THEM SHALL LIVE BY F53 THEM." 13 Christ redeemed R121 us from the curse of the Law, having become a curse for us--for it is written, "CURSED R122 IS EVERYONE WHO HANGS ON A R123 TREE F54 "-- 14 in order that in R124 Christ Jesus the blessing of Abraham might come F55 to the Gentiles, so that we would R125 receive the R126 promise of the Spirit through faith.

Intent of the Law

15 Brethren, R127 I R128 speak in F56 terms of human relations: even R129 though it is only a man's covenant, F57 yet when it has been ratified, no one sets it aside or adds conditions F58 to it. 16 Now the promises were spoken to R130 Abraham and to his seed. He does not say, "And to seeds," as referring to many, but rather to one, "And R131 to your seed," that is, Christ. 17 What I am saying is this: the Law, which came four R132 hundred and thirty years later, does not invalidate a covenant previously ratified by God, so as to nullify the promise. 18 For if R133 the inheritance is based F59 on law, it is no longer based F59 on a promise; but God R134 has granted it to Abraham by means of a promise.

19 Why R135 the Law then? It was added because F60 of transgressions, having been ordained R136 through angels by R137 the agency F61 of a mediator, until the R138 seed would come to whom the promise had been made. 20 Now a R139 mediator is not for F62 one party only; whereas God is only one. 21 Is the Law then contrary to the promises of God? May R140 it never be! For if R141 a law had been given which was able to impart life, then righteousness would F63 indeed have been based F64 on law. 22 But the Scripture has shut R142 up everyone F65 under sin, so that the promise by faith in Jesus Christ might be given to those who believe.

23 But before faith came, we were kept in custody under the law, being R143 shut up to the faith which was later to be revealed. 24 Therefore the Law has become our tutor R144 to lead us to Christ, so that we R145 may be justified by faith. 25 But now that faith has come, we are no longer under a tutor. R146 F66 26 For you are all sons R147 of God through faith in Christ R148 Jesus. 27 For all of you who were baptized R149 into Christ have clothed R150 yourselves with Christ. 28 There R151 is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither slave nor free man, there is neither F67 male nor female; for you R152 are all one in Christ R153 Jesus. 29 And if you R154 belong F68 to Christ, then you are Abraham's descendants, F69 heirs according to promise.
