1 Then God said to Jacob, "Arise, go up to Bethel R1009 and live F665 there, and make an altar there to God, R1010 who appeared to you when R1011 you fled from F666 your brother Esau." 2 So Jacob said to his household R1012 and to all who were with him, "Put away the R1013 foreign gods which are among you, and purify R1014 yourselves and change your garments; 3 and let us arise and go up to Bethel, and I will make an R1015 altar there to God, who R1016 answered me in the day of my distress and has R1017 been with me wherever F667 I have gone." 4 So they gave to Jacob all the foreign gods which they F668 had and the rings which were in their ears, and Jacob hid them under the oak F669 which was near Shechem. 5 As they journeyed, there was a R1018 F670 great terror upon the cities which were around them, and they did not pursue the sons of Jacob.
