The Judgment of God

1 Woe to R1208 you, O destroyer,

While you were not destroyed;

And he who R1209 is treacherous, while others did not deal treacherously with him.

As soon as you finish destroying, you R1210 will be destroyed;

As soon as you cease to deal treacherously, others will deal R1211 treacherously with you.

2 O LORD, be R1212 gracious to us; we have waited R1213 for You.

Be their F483 strength R1214 F484 every morning,

Our salvation also in the time R1215 of distress.

3 At the sound of the tumult peoples R1216 flee;

At the lifting R1217 up of Yourself nations disperse.

4 Your spoil is gathered as the caterpillar gathers;

As locusts rushing about men rush about on it.

5 The LORD is exalted, R1218 for He dwells on high;

He has filled R1219 Zion with justice and righteousness.

6 And He will be the stability R1220 F485 of your times,

A wealth R1221 of salvation, wisdom and knowledge; R1222

The fear R1223 of the LORD is his treasure.

7 Behold, their brave men cry in the F486 streets,

The ambassadors R1224 F487 of peace weep bitterly.

8 The highways are desolate, the F488 traveler R1225 has ceased,

He has broken R1226 the covenant, he has despised the cities,

He has no regard for man.

9 The R1227 land mourns and pines away,

Lebanon R1228 is shamed and withers;

Sharon R1229 is like a desert plain,

And Bashan and Carmel lose F489 their foliage.

10 "Now I R1230 will arise," says the LORD,

"Now I will be exalted, now I will be lifted up.

11 "You have conceived R1231 chaff, F490 you will give birth to stubble;

My F491 breath R1232 will consume you like a fire.

12 "The peoples will be burned to lime,

Like R1233 cut thorns which are burned in the fire.

13 "You who are far away, hear R1234 what I have done;

And you who are near, acknowledge F492 My might."

14 Sinners R1235 in Zion are terrified;

Trembling R1236 has seized the godless.

"Who among us can live with the R1237 consuming fire?

Who among us can live with continual F493 burning?" R1238

15 He who walks R1239 righteously and speaks with sincerity,

He who rejects unjust F494 gain

And shakes his hands so that they hold no bribe;

He who stops his ears from hearing about bloodshed

And shuts R1240 his eyes from looking upon evil;

16 He will dwell on the heights,

His R1241 refuge will be the impregnable F495 rock;

His R1242 bread will be given him,

His water will be sure.

17 Your eyes will see the R1243 King in His beauty;

They will behold a R1244 far-distant land.

18 Your heart will meditate on terror: R1245

"Where is he R1246 who counts?

Where is he who weighs?

Where is he who counts the towers?"

19 You will no longer see a fierce people,

A people of unintelligible R1247 F496 speech which F497 no one comprehends,

Of a stammering tongue which F498 no one understands.

20 Look R1248 upon Zion, the city of our appointed feasts;

Your eyes will see Jerusalem, an undisturbed R1249 habitation,

A R1250 tent which will not be folded;

Its stakes will never be pulled up,

Nor any of its cords be torn apart.

21 But there the majestic One, the LORD, will be for us

A place of rivers R1251 and wide canals

On which no boat with oars will go,

And on which no mighty ship will pass--

22 For the LORD is our judge, R1252

The LORD is our R1253 lawgiver,

The LORD is our R1254 king;

He R1255 will save us--

23 Your tackle hangs slack;

It cannot hold the base of its mast firmly,

Nor spread out the sail.

Then the prey R1256 of an abundant spoil will be divided;

The R1257 lame will take the plunder.

24 And no resident will say, "I am sick"; R1258

The people who dwell there F499 will be forgiven R1259 their iniquity.
