Heaven Is God's Throne

1 Thus says the LORD, "Heaven R2723 is My throne and the earth is My footstool. Where then is a house R2724 you could build for Me? And where is a place that I F869 may rest?

2 "For My R2725 hand made all these things,

Thus all these things came into being," declares the LORD.

"But to this one I will look,

To him who is humble and contrite R2726 of spirit, and who trembles R2727 at My word.

Hypocrisy Rebuked

3 "But he who kills an ox is like one who slays a man;

He who sacrifices a lamb is like the one who breaks a dog's neck;

He who offers a grain offering is like one who offers swine's R2728 blood;

He who burns R2729 F870 incense is like the one who blesses an idol.

As they have chosen their own R2730 ways,

And their soul delights in their abominations, R2731

4 So I will choose R2732 their punishments F871

And will bring R2733 on them what they dread.

Because I called, but no R2734 one answered;

I spoke, but they did not listen.

And they did evil R2735 in My sight

And chose that in which I did not delight."

5 Hear the word of the LORD, you who tremble R2736 at His word:

"Your brothers who hate R2737 you, who exclude R2738 you for My name's sake,

Have said, `Let the LORD be glorified, that we may see your joy.'

But they R2739 will be put to shame.

6 "A voice of uproar from the city, a voice from the temple,

The voice of the LORD who is rendering R2740 recompense to His enemies.

7 "Before she travailed, she R2741 brought forth;

Before her pain came, she R2742 gave birth to a boy.

8 "Who R2743 has heard such a thing? Who has seen such things?

Can a land be born F872 in one day?

Can a nation be brought forth all at once?

As soon as Zion travailed, she also brought forth her sons.

9 "Shall I bring to the point of birth and not R2744 give delivery?" says the LORD.

"Or shall I who gives delivery shut the womb?" says your God.

Joy in Jerusalem's Future

10 "Be joyful R2745 with Jerusalem and rejoice for her, all you who love R2746 her;

Be exceedingly glad R2747 with her, all you who mourn over her,

11 That you may nurse and be R2748 satisfied with her comforting breasts,

That you may suck and be delighted with her bountiful R2749 bosom."

12 For thus says the LORD, "Behold, I extend peace R2750 to her like a river,

And the glory R2751 of the nations like an overflowing stream;

And you will be F873 nursed, you will be carried R2752 on the hip F874 and fondled on the knees.

13 "As one whom his mother comforts, so I will comfort R2753 you;

And you will be comforted in Jerusalem."

14 Then you will see R2754 this, and your heart R2755 will be glad,

And your bones R2756 will flourish like the new grass;

And the hand R2757 of the LORD will be made known to His servants,

But He will be indignant R2758 toward His enemies.

15 For behold, the LORD will come in fire R2759

And His chariots R2760 like the whirlwind,

To render His anger with fury,

And His rebuke with flames of fire.

16 For the LORD will execute judgment by fire R2761

And by His sword R2762 on all flesh,

And those slain by the LORD will be many.

17 "Those who sanctify and purify themselves to go to the gardens, R2763

Following F875 one in the center,

Who eat swine's R2764 flesh, detestable things and mice,

Will come R2765 to an end altogether," declares the LORD.

18 "For I know F876 their works and their thoughts; R2766 the F877 time is coming to gather R2767 all nations and tongues. And they shall come and see My glory. 19 "I will set a sign R2768 among them and will send survivors from them to the nations: Tarshish, R2769 Put, F878 Lud, R2770 Meshech, F879 Tubal R2771 and Javan, F880 to the distant coastlands R2772 that have neither heard My fame nor seen My glory. And they will declare R2773 My glory among the nations. 20 "Then they shall bring R2774 all your brethren from all the nations as a grain offering to the LORD, on horses, in chariots, in litters, on mules and on camels, to My holy R2775 mountain Jerusalem," says the LORD, "just as the sons of Israel bring their grain offering in a clean R2776 vessel to the house of the LORD. 21 "I will also take some of them for priests R2777 and for Levites," says the LORD.

22 "For just as the new R2778 heavens and the new earth

Which I make will endure before Me," declares the LORD,

"So your offspring R2779 and your name R2780 will endure.

23 "And it shall be from new R2781 moon to new moon

And from sabbath to sabbath,

All mankind F881 will come to bow R2782 down before Me," says the LORD.

24 "Then they will go forth and look

On the corpses R2783 of the men

Who have transgressed R2784 F882 against Me.

For their worm R2785 will not die

And R2786 their fire will not be quenched;

And they will be an abhorrence R2787 to all mankind." F883
