Lamentations 1:1-11 [ Verse 4 in Original: Hebrew / Greek ]
[ Read Chapter | Discuss these Verses ]
1 How lonely R1 sits the city That was full R2 of people! She has become like a widow R3 Who was once great R4 among the nations! She who was a princess among the provinces F1 Has become a forced R5 laborer! 2 She weeps R6 bitterly in the night And her tears are on her cheeks; She has none to comfort her Among all her lovers. R7 All her friends have dealt R8 treacherously with her; They have become her enemies. 3 Judah R9 has gone into exile under F2 affliction And under F2 harsh F3 servitude; She dwells among R10 the nations, But she has found no rest; All her R11 pursuers have overtaken her In the midst of distress. F4 4 The roads of F5 Zion are in mourning Because no R12 one comes to the appointed feasts. All her gates are desolate; R13 Her priests are groaning, Her virgins R14 are afflicted, And she herself is F6 bitter. R15 5 Her adversaries have become her F7 masters, Her enemies prosper; F8 For the LORD has caused R16 her grief Because of the multitude of her transgressions; Her little ones have gone away As captives before the adversary. 6 All her majesty R17 Has departed from the daughter of Zion; Her princes have become like deer That have found no pasture; And they have fled R18 F9 without strength Before the pursuer. 7 In the days of her affliction and homelessness Jerusalem R19 remembers all her precious things That were from the days of old, When her people fell into the hand of the adversary And no R20 one helped her. The adversaries saw her, They mocked R21 at her ruin. F10 8 Jerusalem sinned greatly, R22 Therefore she R23 has become an unclean thing. All who honored her despise her Because they have seen her nakedness; Even she R24 herself groans and turns away. 9 Her uncleanness R25 was in her skirts; She did F11 not consider her future. R26 Therefore she has fallen R27 F12 astonishingly; She R28 has no comforter. "See, R29 O LORD, my affliction, For the enemy has magnified R30 himself!" 10 The adversary has stretched out his hand Over all her precious things, For she has seen the nations R31 enter her sanctuary, The ones whom You commanded That they should not R32 enter into Your congregation. 11 All her people groan seeking R33 bread; They have given their precious things for food To restore R34 their lives F13 themselves. "See, O LORD, and look, For I am despised." R35
