Lamentations 2:10-22 [ Verse 15 in Original: Hebrew / Greek ]
[ Read Chapter | Discuss these Verses ]
10 The elders of the daughter of Zion Sit R95 on the ground, they are R96 silent. They have thrown dust R97 on their heads; They have girded themselves with sackcloth. R98 The virgins R99 of Jerusalem Have bowed their heads to the ground. 11 My eyes R100 fail because of tears, My spirit R101 F31 is greatly troubled; My heart R102 F32 is poured out on the earth Because R103 of the destruction F33 of the daughter of my people, When little R104 ones and infants faint In the streets of the city. 12 They say to their mothers, "Where R105 is grain and wine?" As they faint like a wounded man In the streets of the city, As their life R106 is poured out On their mothers' bosom. 13 How shall I admonish you? To what shall R107 I compare you, O daughter of Jerusalem? To what shall I liken you as I comfort you, O virgin R108 daughter of Zion? For your ruin F34 is as vast as the sea; Who can heal R109 you? 14 Your prophets R110 have seen for you False and foolish visions; And they have not exposed R111 your iniquity So as to restore you from captivity, But they have seen R112 for you false and misleading oracles. F35 15 All who pass along the way Clap R113 their hands in derision at you; They hiss R114 and shake their heads At the daughter of Jerusalem, "Is this the city of which they said, `The R115 perfection of beauty, A R116 joy to all the earth'?" 16 All your R117 enemies Have opened their mouths wide against you; They hiss and gnash R118 their teeth. They say, "We have swallowed R119 her up! Surely this is the day R120 for which we waited; We have reached it, we have seen it." 17 The LORD has done R121 what He purposed; He has accomplished His word Which He commanded from days of old. He has thrown down without R122 sparing, And He has caused the enemy to rejoice R123 over you; He has exalted R124 the might F36 of your adversaries. 18 Their heart R125 cried out to the Lord, "O wall R126 of the daughter of Zion, Let your tears R127 run down like a river day and night; Give yourself no relief, Let your F37 eyes have no rest. 19 "Arise, cry aloud in the night R128 At the beginning of the night watches; Pour R129 out your heart like water Before the presence of the Lord; Lift up your hands to Him For the life R130 of your little ones Who are faint R131 because of hunger At the head of every street." 20 See, O LORD, and look! With whom R132 have You dealt thus? Should women eat R133 their offspring, F38 The little ones who were born F39 healthy? Should priest R134 and prophet be slain In the sanctuary of the Lord? 21 On the ground in the streets Lie young R135 and old; My virgins R136 and my young men Have fallen by the sword. You have slain them in the day of Your anger, You have slaughtered, not R137 sparing. 22 You called as in the day of an appointed feast My terrors R138 on every side; And there was no R139 one who escaped or survived In the day of the LORD'S anger. Those whom R140 I bore F40 and reared, My enemy annihilated them.
