Priests to Be Disciplined

1 "And now this commandment is for you, O priests. 2 "If you do not R37 listen, and if you do not take it to heart to give honor to My name," says the LORD of hosts, "then I will send the curse R38 upon you and I will curse your blessings; and indeed, I have cursed R39 them already, because you are not taking it to heart. 3 "Behold, I am going to rebuke R40 your offspring, F18 and I will spread R41 refuse F19 on your faces, the refuse F19 of your feasts; R42 and you will be taken away with F20 it. 4 "Then you will know that I have sent this commandment to you, that F21 My covenant R43 may continue F22 with Levi," says the LORD of hosts. 5 "My covenant with him was one of life and peace, R44 and I gave them to him as an object of reverence; F23 so he revered R45 F24 Me and stood in awe of My name. 6 "True R46 F25 instruction was in his mouth and unrighteousness was not found on his lips; he walked with R47 Me in peace and uprightness, and he turned R48 many back from iniquity. 7 "For the lips of a priest should preserve knowledge, R49 and men F26 should seek R50 instruction F27 from his mouth; for he is the messenger R51 of the LORD of hosts. 8 "But as for you, you have turned aside from the way; you have caused many to stumble R52 by F28 the instruction; you have corrupted R53 F29 the covenant of Levi," says the LORD of hosts. 9 "So I R54 also have made you despised and abased R55 before F30 all the people, just as you are not keeping My ways but are showing partiality R56 in the instruction. F31

Sin in the Family

10 "Do we not all have one R57 father? Has R58 not one God created us? Why do we deal treacherously R59 each against his brother so as to profane the covenant R60 of our fathers? 11 "Judah has dealt treacherously, R61 and an abomination has been committed in Israel and in Jerusalem; for Judah has profaned R62 the sanctuary of the LORD which F32 He loves and has married the daughter of a foreign god. 12 "As for the man who does this, may the LORD R63 cut off from the tents of Jacob everyone who awakes and answers, or who presents R64 an F33 offering to the LORD of hosts.

13 "This is another F34 thing you do: you cover the altar of the LORD with tears, with weeping and with groaning, because He no R65 longer regards the offering F35 or accepts it with favor from your hand. 14 "Yet you say, `For what reason?' Because the LORD has been a witness between you and the wife R66 of your youth, against whom you have dealt treacherously, R67 though she is your companion and your wife by covenant. 15 "But F36 not one has done R68 so who has a remnant of the Spirit. And what F37 did that one do while he was seeking a godly R69 offspring? F38 Take heed then to your spirit, and let no one deal treacherously R70 against the wife of your youth. 16 "For I F39 hate divorce," R71 F40 says the LORD, the God of Israel, "and him F41 who covers his garment with wrong," R72 F42 says the LORD of hosts. "So take heed to your spirit, that you do not deal treacherously."

17 You have wearied R73 the LORD with your words. Yet you say, "How have we wearied Him?" In that you say, "Everyone R74 who does evil is good in the sight of the LORD, and He delights R75 in them," or, "Where R76 is the God of justice?" R77
