Lament over Defeat in Battle, and Prayer for Help.

For the choir director; according to Shushan F569 Eduth. A Mikhtam F569 of David, to teach; when F569 he struggled with Aram-naharaim and with Aram-zobah, and Joab returned, and smote twelve thousand of Edom in the Valley of Salt.

1 O God, You R1773 have rejected us. You have broken R1774 F570 us;

You have been angry; R1775 O, restore R1776 us.

2 You have made the land R1777 F571 quake, You have split it open;

Heal R1778 its breaches, for it totters.

3 You have made R1779 F572 Your people experience hardship;

You have given us wine F573 to drink R1780 that makes us stagger.

4 You have given a banner R1781 to those who fear You,

That it may be displayed because of the truth. Selah. F574

5 That R1782 Your beloved R1783 may be delivered,

Save R1784 with Your right hand, and answer us! F575

6 God has spoken in His holiness: R1785 F576

"I will exult, I will portion out Shechem R1786 and measure out the valley of Succoth. R1787

7 "Gilead R1788 is Mine, and Manasseh is Mine;

Ephraim R1789 also is the helmet F577 of My head;

Judah is My scepter. R1790 F578

8 "Moab R1791 is My washbowl;

Over Edom R1792 I shall throw My shoe;

Shout loud, O Philistia, R1793 because of Me!"

9 Who will bring me into the besieged city?

Who will F579 lead me to Edom?

10 Have not You Yourself, O God, rejected R1794 us?

And will R1795 You not go forth with our armies, O God?

11 O give us help against the adversary,

For deliverance R1796 by F580 man is in vain.

12 Through F581 God we shall do R1797 valiantly,

And it is He who will tread R1798 down our adversaries.
