1. Law tablets Scripture names the stone objects bearing the Ten Commandments the tablets (or tables) of the law (Exodus 24:12), testimony (Exodus 31:18), and covenant (Deuteronomy 9:9). These tablets were perhaps small steles such as those other nations used to publicize their laws.
2. Writing tablets Writing was often done on clay tablets (Ezekiel 4:1) or wood tablets covered with wax (Luke 1:63). The heart is often described as a tablet upon which God writes His law (Proverbs 3:3;
2 Corinthians 3:3).
